RV Safety for Fall

RV Safety for FallWith fall in full swing, now is a great time to take the RV out for one last road trip before the winter sets in. As RVs are heavier, longer, and significantly larger, take the following into consideration when planning a trip to ensure you get to your final destination safely and without incident. Even more importantly, however, is ensuring your vehicle is secured with a customized  New Jersey RV Insurance policy.

Bigger blind spots.

Your blind spots are inherently larger in an RV, so be extra cautious when merging or switching lanes. Remember to make these lane changes slowly, allow plenty of space between you and the vehicle you are following, and always use your turn signals.

Buckle up.

Even though these vehicles are traditionally equipped with beds and couches, it’s still safer to be strapped into a seat belt while traveling to prevent injury in the event of an accident.

Recognize the space you need to come to a complete stop.

Because of your vehicle’s weight, you need considerably more room to come to a complete stop – and braking too suddenly could cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Also, realize that the weight of your RV will make it more difficult to drive on steep downgrades, says JR Law Firm.

Understand your RV’s maximum capacity.

The heavier your RV is, the more difficult it will be to drive. Be cautious of your vehicle’s maximum load capacity and do not overload it. Otherwise, you are more prone to a wreck.

Never drive drowsy.

Driving through the night on road trips or not taking ample breaks can cause you to become drowsy, which is incredibly dangerous while driving. Make frequent stops and allow yourself to rest while on the road!
